Adult counselling

Counselling can be a daunting prospect even for adults. I can appreciate that taking the first step can be scary and I will do my best to make the process as comfortable as possible.

As a person centered counsellor I offer talking therapy for adults. I also worked with clients using art and creativity.

Some adults find it difficult to express themselves with words. Creative arts counselling can be very powerful and can help clients to process emotions in a different way to talking.

Adults are also very welcome to use sand tray therapy as the training that I have completed is for adults as well as children.

In adolescence our children are going through a lot of changes. Puberty can cause physical and emotional change.

Peers now have more importance in their lives and there can be pressure finding where they fit in.

Brain development is still happening until the age of 25. In adolescence this means that what does not serve them anymore disappears to make way for new knowledge, experiences, memories.

New connections are now made in the brain. This can affect our children emotionally, cognitively and physically. They can want to spend more time in their room rather than with family.

They can be more tired as their body is going through a lot. Also, melatonin does not produce until a few hours after adults. This can mean not being able to get to sleep until about 1am and being really tired in a morning getting up for school or college.

Some young people want to talk about their emotions.

Some want to express themselves in different ways.

This is the same as adults.

I will still offer art and creative counselling, journaling and even sand tray therapy if they would like this.
